Good Morning “Repenters”. Today we are in Isaiah 19.
Here Isaiah gives us a look at Gods judgment for Egypt. “In that day”… signals that these are future events. We get some very clear details that point to a coming day of suffering that brings about repentance and even acceptance of yet another nation of gentiles… at least some of them (Revelation 7:9).
“See, the Lord rides on a swift cloud and is coming to Egypt. The idols of Egypt tremble before him, and the hearts of the Egyptians melt with fear.” Isaiah 19:1 NIV
Once again we have to ask… at what period in time does the LORD return to earth? It is only to judge the nations, so we assume this prophecy has to be referring to the Tribulation time. Egypt turns to earthly answers “mediums and spiritualists”, Pharaoh consults his advisors which give “senseless advice.” If then we are talking Tribulation then the “cruel master” mentioned in vs 4 would be the Antichrist. (2 Thessalonians 2:8-12)
Ezekiel prophecies about the same event in Ezekiel 29:8-12.
This time of suffering will cause some to repent and turn to The Lord. “In that day five cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the Lord Almighty….” Isaiah 19:18 NIV
Parts of Egypt turning to The Lord! What? Five cities even speaking Hebrew (Canaan). Their false idols will come down and “In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the Lord at its border. It will be a sign and witness to the Lord Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the Lord because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them.” Isaiah 19:19-20 NIV
The offer of repentance is always there… for now. Judgment and suffering have a purpose… bringing about repentance. And, when repentance is the response, acceptance “Salvation” is granted (1 John 1:9, John 1:12).
Love you all! Dig in!
