Good Morning “Wise Choice Makers.” Today we are in Proverbs 7.
I have often told our students that choosing to sin; is birthed when we know better, yet make a series of small poor choices that we know set us up for failure.
Solomon describes just that, in this Proverb. “I saw among the simple, I noticed among the young men, a youth who had no sense. He was going down the street near her corner, walking along in the direction of her house at twilight, as the day was fading, as the dark of night set in.” Proverbs 7:7-9 NIV
This youth seemingly knows the location of the prostitutes house. In Solomons description it’s easy to see how many opportunities he’s given to use the thing between his ears - and say no to sin. Yet, he positions is himself perfectly for failure.
A wandering heart is easy prey for the evil one. He’s always waiting and never sleeps (1 Peter 5:8).
The allure of sin seems too strong to resist once we are face to face with it. That’s the point - sin is enticing. The evil one knows exactly how to serve up just what we desire most. (Proverbs 7:10-20)
A wandering heart attuned to sin is doomed for destruction (Proverbs 4:23).
When we cross line after line, waiving at red flags along the way… don’t we know where we are heading? Come on! We know! And God knows we know.
Sin always over promises and under delivers. The consequences ALWAYS far outweigh the momentary pleasure sin brings (Proverbs 7:24-27).
Solomon provides the solution, the strategy, as he begins this Proverb with Vs 1 - 5.
We must be those who choose wisdom, living according to The Word of God, choosing wisely along the way, not asking where the line is at that we might try to balance on it… but simply staying far enough away that we can’t even see it from where we are at.
Love you all! Dig in!
