Good Morning “Treated Unfairly”. Today we are In Ecclesiastes 6.
“God gives some people wealth, possessions and honor, so that they lack nothing their hearts desire, but God does not grant them the ability to enjoy them, and strangers enjoy them instead. This is meaningless, a grievous evil.” (grievous affliction)
Ecclesiastes 6:2 NIV
What? That just doesn’t seem fair. How can that be? Don’t we serve a fair and just God? I mean, I’ve heard that over and over haven’t you?
What’s wrong with the statement, “fair and just God”?
God is just! (Deuteronomy 32:4, Psalm 11:7, Psalm 89:14)
Unless you’re reading The Message version, or some other similar distorted corrupted version of Scripture you will not find fairness as a one of Gods attributes in The Bible. He is just! Not fair!
Our world has attempted to link justice and fairness together but they are vastly different things.
Fairness demands that everyone is treated equally and gets what they deserve. Praise God He is NOT fair or you and I would have NO hope, for death is the penalty we deserve because of our sin (Romans 6:23). Fairness goes both ways. His Grace, bestowed upon us is NOT fair. We did nothing to deserve or earn Jesus. Therefore He is perfectly “just” in raining down blessing on some and withholding from others (Matthew 5:45) - as ALL deserve death because all sin (Romans 3:23).
But why? Why blessing and withholding? The answer is always for His glory! How we respond to both abundant blessings and severe need either dishonors or glorifies God. We never forget the big smile, joyous heart, and transcending love that oozes out of the single mom that has nothing… or the little child suffering in a 3rd world country. They simply look like Jesus in their response.
Jesus emptied Himself and became nothing, then went to The Cross for you and I - joyfully. That’s NOT fair! (Philippians 2:5-8, Hebrews 12:1-2)
Love you all! Dig in.
