Good Morning “Proverbs of Solomon Soakers.” Today we are in Proverbs 10.
Chapter 10 begins a series of the Proverbs of Solomon. Right after presenting us with two choices wisdom and folly - He neatly and concisely lists Proverb after Proverb in “right way” (wisdom), “wrong way” (folly) form. One leads to life, the other death - all are applicable.
Here’s just a couple that stuck out to me…
- “Ill-gotten treasures have no lasting value, but righteousness delivers from death.” Proverbs 10:2 NIV
Everyone struggles at times, wanting shinny things. It’s common to look at the wicked and their apparent blessing and wonder why? Why does God bless them so abundantly while those who love Him seem to suffer? Because He knows the world’s treasure is empty and pointless. Treasures on earth pass away, but for us He offers eternity (Matthew 6:19-21). The righteous one, in Christ has life eternal.
- “The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.” Proverbs 10:8 NIV
When I read this passage I’m reminded to, “Just stop talking and listen.” In our pride, we can become so fixated on our way that we miss His way. In the process of making sure everyone knows how righteous, or smart we are it’s possible to totally miss Him moving to grow us. Stop, listen, learn, grow (James 1:19).
Read and apply them all! Which are your favorites?
