Good Morning “Holiness Seekers.” Today we are in Jeremiah 5.
Satans lies are as old as creation. Remember The Garden? Satan came - and Eve relayed the warning they had received. If they eat the fruit from the tree in middle of the garden they will surely die.
“You will not certainly die,” the serpent said to the woman.”
Genesis 3:4 NIV Translation… God is gonna let your sin slide… ummmm NO.
Both Israel and Judah mistook Gods patience, His grace - for indifference to their sin. They continued… each doing what they thought best, tossing God a worship crumb every now and then, while embracing all their flesh desired. They believed the same lie of the evil one, and deceived themselves into believing God would do nothing in response to their sin.
“They have lied about the Lord; they said, “He will do nothing! No harm will come to us; we will never see sword or famine.”
Jeremiah 5:12 NIV
I often get confronted about how “harsh” we are… even with our youth, regarding the seriousness of sin and Gods expectation for us to pursue holiness. Some have even called us a “cult” because we take The Bible seriously. An “unrealistic expectation” I’ve been told. “You expect perfection”, one mom said. “You don’t have to actually, live out what the Bible says to be a Christian. Nobody does that anymore.” It breaks my heart! The same lie Satan told Adam and Eve in the garden that day, prevails today - and many don’t see it!
My convictions regarding Gods expectations for us to live out the Word of God come straight out of Scripture. I love you too much not to tell you The Truth. I chose just a few for anyone who questions otherwise…(Joshua 1:8, 1 Samuel 15:22, Micah 6:8, Matthew 5:48, John 17:17, Romans 6:19, Roman’s 12:1-2, 2 Corinthians 7:1, Ephesians 1:3-4, 1 John 5:3, 1 Peter 1:16… and so on, and so on).
Yes… Jesus paid the price for our sin (John 3:16). Yes He will carry on to completion the good work He began at salvation (Philippians 1:6). However He also gave us the Holy Spirit, and through Him we are no longer slaves to sin (Romans 6:6-) We have the power to say NO to sin… Hence when we sin, we knowingly, willing choose in opposition to God. Should that be blessed?
“”Should you not fear me?” declares the Lord. “Should you not tremble in my presence?””
Jeremiah 5:22aNIV
Love you all! Dig in!
