Good Morning “Undivided.” Today we are in Jeremiah 4.
God through Jeremiah continues to urge Israel, then in verse 3, specifically Judah - to Break up their unplowed ground and not to sow among thorns. (Jeremiah 4:3 NIV)
Hint… He’s not talking about farming here. He will restore them, but their repentance must be real! No more 1 foot in 1 out. No more blending worship of The One True God with false pagan worship. It must begin with their hearts! They must break through the surface of their hard heartedness, “break up their unplowed ground” and make themselves ready for fruit. They must be teachable, ready to listen. That cannot be accomplished among the thorns. Then and only then, He will restore and bless.
There will be judgment first though. Sin must always be dealt with. Restoration will come… but first lessons must be learned. One day, in fact, according to chapter 3, in a future day, Judah and Israel will be united again and dwell in the land God promised their ancestors (Jeremiah 3:18).
Both Israel and Judah had forgotten, tabled, pushed aside The Word of God… the very thing that promised to keep them on track. Hmmm… is that what’s happened to our nation too?
“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:6-7 NIV
“Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”
Joshua 1:8 NIV
Love you all! Dig in!
