Good Morning “Careful Discerners of Good and Evil.” Today we are in Isaiah 5.
How many times have we watched a movie, a drama, a crime investigation show - in which we are surprised by who the bad guy is? Jodi and I have a thing in which we call it at the beginning when the crime is committed, “The tow truck driver did it!” Sometimes we’re actually right. Most of the time we’re wrong. It’s just a show, so it’s kinda fun. But what about real life?
Are you confident that you can discern the difference between right and wrong? Good and evil? In our world it’s getting tougher.
That’s because Satan is the master of deception (2 Thessalonians 2:9-10, Revelation 12:9). As he runs wild around this earth (Job 1:6-7), he works in and through those who are willing, in a deceiving fashion to flip right and wrong on its head. “”Wait, Pastor Jason, how can you say “Those who are willing?””
All throughout Scripture we are urged to hide Gods Law, His Word in our heart (Psalm 119:9-11, Joshua 1:8, Roman’s 12:2). The Word of God is The Sword of The Spirit, together with our other battle tools we can be victorious against Satan (Ephesians 6:10:17). It is possible to defend against His schemes! He is powerless against the Holy Spirit in us.
However; knowing these Truths, when we determine to put The Word aside and embrace our flesh, or simply adopt a shoulder shrugging attitude… when we fail to be intentional regarding our study of The Word and putting it in to practice - we make ourselves a willing target. Yup, willing. No one makes us put aside Gods Word… we choose.
God expects that we can discern. He’s given us all that we need. He simply expects we use It.
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight. Woe to those who are heroes at drinking wine and champions at mixing drinks, who acquit the guilty for a bribe, but deny justice to the innocent.” Isaiah 5:20-23 NIV
Consider the correlation of each of those warnings and their application to us and our world today.
Love you all! Dig in!
