Good Morning “His People”. Today we will start Isaiah 1. With prayerful consideration I’ve decided to pass Song of Songs. I believe I have the heart of God on this matter. The book itself gives us a warning “Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.” Song of Songs 2:7, 3:5, 8:4 NIV. If you would like further explanation- feel free to reach out.
So for now, let’s dive into Isaiah.
The Prophet Isaiah interceded between God and Israel for some 40 years. He began during the year that King Uzziah died, approximately 740BC and continued at least until the Assyrian siege of Jerusalem in 701BC.
Isaiah makes clear that Israel had broken her covenant with God, and thus would experience judgment. Nevertheless upon her repentance, restoration was coming.
As we read Isaiah 1 it’s tough for me not to see us, The USA, The World, really The Church - in Gods Words through Isaiah. It’s chilling really! Gods disgusted with their grand sacrifices and festivals meant to honor Him, while at the same time harboring sin and rebelliousness in their hearts. Read through verses 1-15 and tell me the description doesn’t fit us. It actually reminds me of Romans 1:18 -
God is still the same God today. Discipline still awaits rebellion (Hebrews 12:4-13). Whether we realize it or not I believe it’s already happening.
So God has a Word for Israel, and I believe us as well…
“Wash and make yourselves clean. Take your evil deeds out of my sight; stop doing wrong. Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” Isaiah 1:16-17 NIV (James 4:7-10)
He has stayed His hand of final judgment for now… He desires that none perish, but that all would come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
God continues through Isaiah to speak of the One to come, “The Way”(John 14:6). He is The One through Whom, Salvation and Reconciliation may come when we are truly repentant. “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.” Isaiah 1:18 NIV
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
1 John 1:9 NIV
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV
As The Church, The Body of Believers… we collectively with Israel, through Jesus - ARE Gods people (Galatians 3:28).
Love you all! Dig in!
