Good Morning “Those Who Get After It.” Today we are in Ecclesiastes 11.
Maybe you’ve heard it said…
“Don’t put all your eggs in one basket.”
The wisest and richest man that ever lived, Solomon, gives us similar financial wisdom here.
“Ship your grain across the sea; after many days you may receive a return. Invest in seven ventures, yes, in eight; you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.” Ecclesiastes 11:1-2
Diversify, diversify… almost sounds like a financial advisor doesn’t he? Could he also be speaking about ministry?
I think of this strategy often in that way. Take the Sports / Arts Camp that our students host each year at our church. Think of the daily theme and how many different ways we seek to teach and reinforce it. First we offer Arts and Sports to hopefully somehow draw all children in. We sing songs with Biblical Foundation in them and we use motions - to tie the principles to our memory. Then memory verses with actions or other memory reinforcements. We teach object lessons while locking the principals in with popsicle’s, and then an actual sit and listen lesson - often with drama presentation. Many ways to attempt to drive home the same point. Why? We recognize not all children learn the same. A method that produces fruit in one will not necessarily produce fruit in another.
It’s the same reason we see ministries and ministers use different tools as well: Christian gyms with devos, camping and camps, shooting clubs, motorcycles, magic, you name it! God gifted us with tools to use. We just have to ACTUALLY get to work.
This applies to ministry and practically to life. I’ve often joked with my construction workers, or students on missions… “Well, we’re not going to look it done. Let’s get after it!” Really it’s no joke.
Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.” Ecclesiastes 11:4 NIV
The world’s got many who will think about it, plan it, even stare at it… but fewer who will get it done. (Proverbs 6:6-8, Proverbs 14:23, Ecclesiastes 9:10, Colossians 3:23)
Let’s get after it! Love you all! Dig in!
